For some reason this week I was on a baking roll. I started the week by making chocolate chip cookies with the kids. Then we went to the produce market on Tuesday and found some really delicious raspberries and strawberries which inspired our spring dinner. I made a pasta with artichoke hearts, spinach, heirloom tomatoes, garlic and onions. It was topped off with grilled chicken that was marinated in homemade Italian dressing. For dessert, I made chocolate shortbread to go with the berries and instead of whipped cream we used malted milk chocolate gelato. Sorry no pics. I'm not used to taking pictures of everything yet.
Yesterday, the kids helped me make chocolate-chip scones for them and cranberry-ginger scones for Jimmy and me. I had to find a use for the leftover buttermilk I had purchased for the shortcakes.
I guess all the homemade treats have helped me stay away from donuts because for the last three weeks, I had to have one daily!! My excuse is I'm trying to make up for not gaining any weight my first trimester. I know it's not the right kind of food to splurge on, but I have a sweet tooth. Good thing my husband is a pastry chef. Boy did I get lucky with him!!
