Pizza fun

Making pizza at home was incredibly easy and tremendously fun for the kids. Kai made the pizza dough with the assistance of our Kitchen Aid. I wanted to test the sourdough starter I made so I had to make a few adjustments to the normal doughs found in books and magazines. The pizzas turned out better than delivery or frozen!

Our pizza dough recipe:

1 cup of sourdough starter
1 teaspoon of instant yeast
1 tablespoon of sugar
2 teaspoons of kosher salt
2 ounces (1/4 cup) of olive oil
10 ounces of ice cold water
4 cups all-purpose flour

Put all ingredients (except the flour) into the mixer and mix with paddle attachment for 1 minute. Change to hook attachment, add flour and let machine mix dough for 10 minutes. Dough is done when it pulls away from sides of the bowl and is smooth in appearance. Take the dough out and rest it in an oiled bowl to rise for at least 1 hour. This recipe makes enough for six individual sized pizzas. We baked our pizzas at 425 degrees until cheese was melted and crust was brown (about 10 minutes).

Our dough only rested for two hours before we started the fun. It's so easy that a two and four year old can make it, give it a try! Now, I'm thinking of buying a pizza stone since we have pizzas once a week.
