Kids not getting enough dairy?

Flipping through magazine articles, web sites and watching the news, it's hard to believe that children are not getting the calcium they need. There's so many sources for calcium besides the obvious milk. They can get calcium from broccoli, tofu, or other green leafy vegetables. Okay, so getting your kids to eat vegetables to increase their calcium intake maybe a stretch in your house so here's what I do. (My kids do eat vegetables & tofu by the way, Bella will eat anything that is green!)

I keep a drawer in the refrigerator stocked with cheese sticks, cheese slices (real cheese, not the pasteurized kind-my kids won't touch that kind), cheese rounds,  yogurt and yogurt tubes. I also freeze the yogurt tubes, which is a wonderful treat on a hot day. Frozen yogurt tubes would be a great addition to any lunch box for school age children because by the time they are ready for lunch it has defrosted and is still cold. It's also, great to keep in the cooler for long road trips.

Kids love cheese and frozen treats! Adding those two to their daily diet will help you reach the 3 servings a day that they need in addition to the glass of milk or milk in the morning cereal.
