One of my pantry staples is Crofter's Sperfruit Spreads. I love it because Crofters uses the ripest organic fruits, fair trade organic cane sugar, apple pectin and citric acid to make their yummy spreads. It is only 30 calories per tablespoon (not that I count calories, but info for my sisters who do), it has only 7 grams of sugar per serving (which is 50% or more less than maple syrup, agave syrup or honey) and has 50% of the RDA of vitamin C!
I discovered their spreads during one of my pregnancies because I was on the border for having gestational diabetes. I had to watch what I ate and that made me read labels for everything. I looked for spreads that were organic, contained no HFC, and low in sugar. That's when I found the Crofter's Superfruit Spreads at my Whole Foods. Their spreads met my requirements plus they have such interesting blends.
The Superfruit line has four flavor combinations Asia, Europe, North America and South America.
Asia is a blend of raspberries, yumberries, morello cherries and red grapes.
Europe is a blend of black currents, pomegranates, morello cherries, and red grapes.
North America is a blend of wild blueberries, cranberries, morello cherries, and red grapes.
South America is a blend of maqui berries, passion fruit, morello cherries, and red grapes.
Anyone who knows me knows that I can't pick just one so naturally I have all four flavors in the house at all times. Currently I have three opened jars in the fridge and two backup jars in the pantry. We use the spreads on toast, waffles, pancakes, yogurt, muffins, scones, cakes, cookies and almond butter & fruit sandwiches.
I also have a jar of their organic blood orange spread in the fridge. I was having a Paddington Bear moment after showing my children old Paddington Bear videos. I wanted a honey and marmalade sandwich (which by the way, was a sandwich I started eating as a child because of Paddington)! The organic blood orange spread is so marvelous on its own that I didn't even want to add honey. Upon opening the jar and inhaling the wondrous scent of blood oranges I had to stop myself from spooning the spread directly into my mouth only because if I did there probably would be very little left for my husband who also loves blood oranges!
Crofters also has a line of Just Fruit Spreads which only has one fruit for when you are craving only one fruit on your toast. The Just Fruit line is simply that, just fruit! The jar of organic wild blueberry spread in my fridge is made from organic wild blueberries, concentrated organic grape juice, apple pectin, ascorbic acid and citric acid. These are also low sugar at 8 grams per tablespoon and only 35 calories per serving!
This was not paid for by Crofter's, I just really love their spreads and this is the first of my many favorites! I'll try to post monthly what foods I'm in love with and can't be without. Really though, if you haven't tried any of the Crofter's spreads you should, they are super yummy!
